Geostationary Satellite Diagram

Infrequently the stationary satellite may wander from its assigned slot. A small gas thruster remotely operated from the earth is all that is required to move the satellite back to its original position.

A stationary satellite may also have a small engine called an apogee motor to bring it to the correct height after launching from a rocket.
